GW2: Expansion Announcement!

The release of Living World Season 3 Episode 6 earlier tonight brings an end to the Chapter.

I recommend not reading any further until you have completed all the LWS3 story.

Well okay then, if you’re sure! Read on!

If like me, you have completed the story already, you will have already seen a teaser of what’s next to come for Guild Wars 2…

With the closing line of LWS3 from your playable character:

Ok. Looks like I’m going to the Crystal Desert.

YAY! I’ve always wanted to go to the Crystal Desert after reading the book “Edge of Destiny” and hearing about the story of Destiny’s Edge and Kralkatorrik.

I can’t express how excited I am for the expansion and seeing what more ArenaNet can bring to the world of Tyria following the Heart of Thorns expansion. Mounts, maybe?

GW2: Living World Season 3, Episode 6 FINALE: One Path Ends

Last week the final episode for Living World Season 3 was announced for release on Tuesday 25th July. Earlier, an official trailer for the final episode was posted, click here to see the “One Path Ends” Trailer.

During the release of “Flashpoint” (episode 5), it sounded like there would be 2 more episodes to the Living World Season, but “One Path Ends” (episode 6) has been confirmed to be the finale.

I’ll be sad to see the Season end, but I hope the story ends with something to remember as personally I’ve been a bit underwhelmed by the story so far. I’m looking forward to seeing the new area brought to Tyria with this episode as I was really impressed with Draconis Mons. And who knows, maybe ArenaNet are working on another expansion…

*Edit (19/7/17) 5pm GMT: On that note, this Guild Wars 2 Teaser Clip was released 5 minutes ago with the caption “Where one path ends, new growth begins”. Could this be a teaser as to what’s to come after the events of LWS3?

Again, I don’t really want to mention anything about the story in case some people haven’t played the other episodes yet, but let me know any theories you might have about how it’s all going to end! I’ll let you know my thoughts next week after I’ve completed the final part of the LWS3 story.

So, are you ready to save Tyria?

GW2: The Druid Stone – Draconis Mons

Draconis Mons is the new area brought to Guild Wars 2 with the 5th Episode of Living World Season 3: Flashpoint. I didn’t get chance to play this as soon as it came out, so over the past few days I’ve spent a fair amount of time completing the area and working towards the achievements – particularly The Druid Stone achievements.

This is where the new area is located within Tyria on the map and what it looks like:

It includes 4 replayable Renown Hearts (daily reset), 3 Waypoints, 22 Points of Interest and 5 Vistas. It is set on multiple levels similar to Bloodstone Fen so it can be difficult to navigate at first, especially as there’s only 3 waypoints, but it seems smaller than it looks and it’s fairly easy to glide to the places you need to get to.

Now you’ve seen the area I will move onto one of the achievements called “The Druid Stone”. This is a tiered achievement so I will tell you about the first step in this post. This will unlock a backpack which as the tiers progress will unlock on ascended backpack.

If you have completed the first stage, click here for the Awakening The Druid Stone guide:

Firstly you need to complete the story… I won’t talk about that because I don’t want to spoil it for anyone, but I found it somewhat disappointing and slightly random considering I’ve waited over 12 weeks to play it.

So this is The Druid Stone achievement log in the achievement panel:

20170514211714_1 - Copy

You will need to do 7 things for this achievement, the first being completing the story… so that’s 6 more to go!

  1. Complete the story instance “Heart of the Volcano” (the last part).
  2. Create a Druid Runestone: Combine 5 Runestone fragments to create a complete Druid Runestone. 4 of these fragments are bought from the Heart vendors after you have completed each one and cost 1050 Karma. The other is bought from the Unbound Magic Vendor for 1000 Unbound Magic and 1 Gold.
  3. Give the Completed Druid Runestone to Kodama: Kodama can be found the level below Heathen’s Hold Waypoint. She is at the far end of the cave marked with the “Druid’s Grotto” POI (see pictures below).
  4. Bring a Fire Orchid to Kodama: Harvest a Fire Orchid and keep it in your inventory to give to Kodama. You cannot give a Fire Orchid that has been deposited. Interact with her to give her the Orchid.
  5. Bring a Fire Orchid to Liriodendron: Liriodendron can be found at the “Peace Grounds” POI on the very East side of the map (see pictures below).
  6. Bring a Fire Orchid to Broadleaf: South West of the map, high on a ledge – you will need to see the pictures below for this one as it’s hard to explain and no so easy to get to.
  7. Bring a Fire Orchid to Rosewood: Near the Ancient Hollow Waypoint (see pictures below).

Pictures/Diagrams for the Druid’s Locations:

Kodama: Kodama can be found below the Heathen’s Hold Waypoint. Just run directly West of the waypoint, drop down a level to a ledge with a cave opening. If you drop down you should be directly above this platform. She is at the far end of the cave marked with the “Druid’s Grotto” POI.

Liriodendron: Start at Heathen’s Hold Waypoint, again go directly West and drop off the end but this time open your glider as soon as you can and glide directly East. You can land on this level at any time, but keep going East and turn at the last moment to find the Peace Grounds and Liriodendron.

Broadleaf: This is probably the most awkward one to get to as Broadleaf is all the way over the other side of the map. Start at Heathen’s Hold Waypoint and use the Thermal Tube directly North of the Waypoint, this will put you by the Volcano entrance. Turn around and glide into the updraft and then glide South-West without dropping otherwise you won’t make it… just keep gliding and leaning when you can. See the photos for more detail.

It was difficult to see the dots on this one so I added some arrows to show where you need to go.

Rosewood: Travel to Ancient Hollow Waypoint, slightly to the North you will find a Bouncy Mushroom sending you up a large branch to another Bouncy Mushroom. This will take you to a mossy platform with a large rock next to it. Rosewood is at the end of the rock.

Use these mushrooms to get to the platform I’m stood on. Rosewood is just off screen to my right in the 2nd picture.

After interacting with all the Druids and giving them the Orchids, The Druid Stone achievement will now be complete. You will be rewarded with the unlock for the next tier “Awakening The Druid Stone” (which I will talk about next time) and the backpack which looks like this:

GW2: Living World Season 3, Episode 5: Flashpoint

ArenaNet have officially announced the release of the next episode of Living World Season 3 on May 2nd! I have been waiting for this for weeks as it will have been 12 weeks between the release of episode 4 “Head of the Snake” and episode 5 “Flashpoint”.

If you haven’t seen the trailer for Flashpoint, you can see it here:

Living World Season 3 started July 26th 2016 with the first episode “Out of Shadows”. All these episodes have been free for everyone who logs into Guild Wars 2 anytime during the period where that episode has been the most recent release. Unfortunately if you’ve missed an episode I’m not sure if you’ll be able to get it before they put it up in the gem store for purchase like they did with Living World Season 2.

These episodes have each been released with a new area for you to explore. Some of these areas provide great event chains, bosses and farming runs such as the favoured leather farm in Lake Doric (which was released with episode 4). I’m not sure if you can play episodes if you don’t own the one before, but you have to own Heart of Thorns to be able to play them even though you can receive the episodes for free without the HoT expansion.

map numbered.jpg

As you can see by my terribly edited map (it was too big to screenshot in one take), I have numbered the areas that were released with each episode, showing where they are.

  1. Bloodstone Fen – Released with Episode 1 “Out of Shadows” (July 26th 2016 – Sept 18th 2016).
  2. Ember Bay – Released with Episode 2 “Rising Flames” (Sept 19th 2016 – Nov 20th 2016).
  3. Bitterfrost Frontier – Released with Episode 3 “A Crack in the Ice” (Nov 21st 2016 – Feb 7th 2017).
  4. Lake Doric – Released with Episode 4 “Head of the Snake” (Feb 8th 2017 – May 1st 2017).

These areas all count towards the HoT mastery system, so all experience in these areas will add towards those Heart of Maguuma mastery levels. Mastery insights and achievements awarding mastery points are also in these areas as well as new perks being released with every episode that can be found in the Ancient Magics mastery path.

I’m really looking forward to playing this episode as I’ve been waiting for what seems like ages! Originally ArenaNet said they were going to release and episode every 6 – 8 weeks, but like I said, this will have been 12… That’s way too long considering I completed the episode 4 story the day after it was released.

I won’t give any spoilers in case some of you haven’t played them yet, but I’m liking the story so far and I’m interested in seeing where the new area will be and what it will be like.

At the end of the trailer it states there will be 2 more episodes to come, so enjoy them while they last as it will soon all be over… Although obviously you can play them again. And don’t forget about the current events that are still being updated, the most recent being the Feb 22nd update where you can complete a story mission to unlock an ascended Caladbolg weapon (Greatsword, Sword Dagger, Scepter and Shield). You can unlock all 5 by purchasing them with unbound magic too after you’ve completed the side story (this story can only be played after completing the HoT story).

That’s all for now, hope you all enjoy the episode and the content when it’s released on May 2nd. Have fun!
