Over the past few weeks, I’ve seen a new trend of fellow writers take on the recent “Have You Ever? The Gaming Edition” tag. I’ve read a fair few of these posts, including answers from Pix at Shoot the Rookie, Krista at LeeksPlays, and the tag creator herself – Michelle at A Geek Girl’s Guide. I thought it would be fun to answer these questions myself, but this time I also brought WesleyWhale along with me to spark up some conversation. So, let’s get started!
“Have you ever…”
Rage quit a game?
Skylar-Mei: I’ve never rage quit a game to the point of no return, but I’ll admit I have ‘AltF4’ed a few times.
WesleyWhale: When the game ruins your day, Alt F4 your game away. I can’t remember a specific time I rage quit a game, but I’m sure I’ve force quit a few games when it tries to pull some BS. I always end up finishing the games though, I don’t stay angry for too long.
Skylar-Mei: The most recent time I can recall was during our playthrough of Code Vein when I got completely lost at the end of the Cathedral of the Sacred Blood and I took a wrong turn, fell straight of an edge and was so mad that I didn’t return to the game for 3 days.
WesleyWhale: I won’t hold that one against you.
Earned all the achievements in a game?
Skylar-Mei: I like achievements. According to Steam, I have 28 perfect games, and I have a few more on other platforms too.
WesleyWhale: Steam says I have 3 perfect games. I couldn’t tell you what these games are though.
Skylar-Mei: Sometimes it is a waste of time (The Caligula Effect: Overdose), but 100% completing a game makes me feel like I’ve seen all there is to see, especially when it comes to visual novels.
Pulled an all-nighter gaming?
WesleyWhale: Plenty. Way back, when I was a wee boy, I used to hold a fair amount of LAN parties. Halo > sleep.
Skylar-Mei: I can’t remember a time when I ‘survived’ a gaming all-nighter. Even if I do make it through the night, I’ll have to sleep during the day instead, so I guess it doesn’t really count… I always stay up way too late playing games though.
Livestreamed your gaming?
Skylar-Mei: No, and I don’t think I’ll ever have the confidence to livestream, but WesleyWhale has recently started recording some of our gaming sessions. I uploaded a series of short Trine 2 clips on Twitter a few months ago to showcase our first project which was quite exciting.
WesleyWhale: I’d like to do more short videos like these in the future.
Skylar-Mei: Me too. Trine 2 was a great example of a game to get some entertaining clips from. The three of us had so much playing too, although I think we can all agree the audio needs some work – starting with a 3rd microphone.
Pre-ordered a game?
Skylar-Mei: I tend not to pre-order things.
WesleyWhale: I think myself and Skylar-Mei are like-minded when it comes to the question of pre-ordering. Right?
Skylar-Mei: I agree. I believe pre-ordering has an overall negative impact on the industry. It only serves to benefit the publishers making money before the reviews hit, and what’s stopping these companies from releasing an unfinished game since they already have your money?
WesleyWhale: That pretty much sums it up. The game is going to be released whether you pre-order it or not anyway.
Bought a game and never played it?
WesleyWhale: I feel like this question is a personal attack.
Skylar-Mei: I never buy a game without the intention of playing it. That’s the same thing, right?
WesleyWhale: I would’ve played all the games in my Steam library if life didn’t keep getting in the way.
Skylar-Mei: I think Humble Bundle is also partly to blame…
Been jump-scared by a horror game?
WesleyWhale: Sure, maybe. Jump scares are never impactful enough to leave a lasting impression.
Skylar-Mei: I agree. I’m pretty sure I’ve been ‘got’ by jump scares before, not that I can recall anything specific. Any raise in volume usually startles me – not because it’s scary, but because it hurts my ears.
Had a set squad for a specific game?
WesleyWhale: I have a 5 man team for Dota 2 consisting of my family members and I hate every minute of it. I had never developed a migraine from a video game until this.
Skylar-Mei: Usually it’s just me and WesleyWhale, but his brothers often played with us too. Four player Guild Wars 2 dungeons were probably the highlight until we figured out some of them needed five players…
Bought a game on multiple platforms?
Skylar-Mei: The only one I can recall is Bayonetta, but that’s only because Bayonetta 2 came with a Switch code for the first game which I’d already bought on Steam.
WesleyWhale: I don’t think I have, unless remasters count.
Got a console for the games specifically?
Skylar-Mei: I bought a PS4 two years ago with Persona 5 in mind. I still haven’t played it.
WesleyWhale: But we did discover Dragons Crown Pro because you bought that console. I think we got your money’s worth from that absolute gem.
Skylar-Mei: Very true! I also got to play the Spyro and MediEvil remasters so I’d say it was worth it. I’ve still got Ni No Kuni and Catherine Full Body on my PS4 list too.
I’m hoping we can write more joint posts like this in the future to get WesleyWhale more involved with the blog, starting with a new series we’ve got planned. I also want us to continue to work on some more gaming videos in the near future to run alongside what we aim to achieve with our future writing. I guess we’ll see what happens!
Thanks for reading!
