Well, last month I said February was the worst month of my life… Now we have a winner! March has been a complete nightmare. I apologize for starting this post on a downer, but it gets better – I promise!
The Japan trip we’ve been planning for over a year has been cancelled due to the FCO advising against all travel, and we can only get the money back as a credit note. There’s uncertainty with my job too as I’m currently laid off until shops can be opened again, although I’m pleased the government are taking the social distancing seriously now – I just wish they’d put these measures in place 2 weeks earlier.
On the positive side, I’m self isolating with my boyfriend, so we’re spending this time to play some games in our forever-increasing backlog.
Ori and the Will of the Wisps (Steam)
Animal Crossing: New Horizons (Switch)
Flipping Death (Steam)
There’s been 2 major purchases this month, but they are both games I’ve been desperate to play. I’ve already played Animal Crossing more than any other Switch game (within a week of release), but I’m waiting for the right time to start Ori. My Code Realize preorder also arrived and I picked up Flipping Death with a great discount on Steam.
Games Played (Unfinished):
Tokyo Mirage Sessions
Age of Empires II
Little Big Adventure
Fight ‘N Rage
Animal Crossing: New Horizons
Due to self isolation, I’ve played a hell of a lot of games this month so I’ve separated this list into unfinished (above) and completed games (below). I’m working on finishing some backlog games with my boyfriend, but we keep getting into the habit of playing loads at once…
I keep playing an hour or two of Tokyo Mirage Sessions here and there, but I’m not as bothered about this game as I thought I’d be. I reached a similar point with The Caligula Effect where I left the game alone for a while before properly getting into it, so now I’m over chapter 2, things should start to pick up.
I went back to visit some older favourites with my boyfriend and his brother by having some matches of Age of Empires II and Dota 2. These were great fun, if only I could convince them to play Smite with me again…
London Detective Mysteria (100%)
Detective Di: The Silk Rose Murders (100%)
F.E.A.R. Extraction Point
F.E.A.R. Perseus Mandate
The Legacy of Kain: Blood Omen 2
Yakuza 0 (Story)
So many completions! I’ve finished two huge games this month (Nioh and Yakuza 0) with my boyfriend, and we loved both of them! I’m pretty sure we’ll be going back to start New Game + for both in the near future too.
I also finally completed London Detective Mysteria. I feel like this dragged on way longer than it should have as it took ages to get into, but it was okay overall.
Aside from that, I’ve been focusing on some smaller games and older titles from our backlog. Trine was especially fun, making use of Steam’s Remote Play Together’, we had a blast playing this with 3 of us. I was very impressed with this feature – seriously, great job Valve!
Game of the Month
Animal Crossing: New Horizons
This category could’ve had 3 winners this month (Animal Crossing, Detective Di, Yakuza 0), but I settled on Animal Crossing due to the comfort it has provided during these uncertain times. I’m sure I’m not alone in saying this game has provided somewhat an escape during the lockdowns and self isolation everyone is facing. It is the ray of sunshine we need right now, which in my eyes proves Animal Crossing is worthy of game of the month.
Looking Forward To:
Higurashi When They Cry – Chapter 8: Matsuribayashi (PC)
Collar X Malice (Switch)
Nioh 2 (PC)
Higurashi Chapter 8 is finally out of beta which means it won’t be long until I finally get to finish the main Higurashi series. I’ve been waiting for this for years, and as one of my all time favourite series, I’m so excited!
Collar X Malice is also coming to Switch later this year. I love otome visual novels so I’ll always welcome a new one to my library since I never owned a Vita. I’ve heard a lot about it recently, so my expectations are fairly high – I’m pretty sure I won’t be disappointed.
Since finishing Nioh, I’m stoked to get into Nioh 2. I’ll definitely be waiting for it to come out on PC though which looks like it will be around November time.
My [11:11] series finished last month so I no longer have that section for this post. Instead, I’m going to try and write a different post every month and feature that here instead. This month, I wrote about a selection of short games to play with views to help gamers working from home as I know playing large games can suck you in, leading to an unwelcome distraction.
It’s also been 3 years since I joined WordPress! I decided to celebrating by sharing my favourite posts. You can head on over to that post by following the link here.
My monthly views also exceeded 10,000 during March which has completely blown my mind! Thank you to everyone who is viewing my content!
Song of the Month:
最終宣告／まふまふ (Final Declaration – Mafumafu)
Mafumafu takes the spotlight for the song of the month for a few reasons. Not only is this a great song, but this month he was supposed to perform at Tokyo Dome – both a solo live and a group performance (Hikifes) which I would’ve loved to go to. Unfortunately due to the virus, both of these dates got cancelled. As performing at Tokyo Dome was Mafumafu’s dream, and also would’ve been the first ever utaite performance there, I can’t help but feel heartbroken for him. He decided to release this song on the day of his cancelled live and organised a livestream with the Hikifes members as an alternative. I managed to show my support by watching most of the stream, and it was wonderful to see them get together and enjoy themselves. The world is in such an awful state right now, so it was nice to see Mafumafu make the most of a bad situation.
Its been a tough month for us all. I hope everyone is staying safe and abiding to the self isolation protocols to help reduce the spread of the pandemic.
Let me know what you’ve been doing this month. I’d love to hear how you’re all spending your isolation time!
