October’s Monthly Summary is a day late this time due to the HORRORWE’EN post I co-wrote with WesleyWhale being posted yesterday. October was fairly busy for gaming despite not having a huge amount of free time and I managed to finish up the main games I started in September. October has mainly revolved around Hallowe’en though which I’m sure you’ll notice. Let’s take a look!
The Silver Case
Edna & Harvey: Harvey’s New Eyes
Edna & Harvey: The Breakout
MediEvil was my main purchase this month. I’ve been waiting what seems like ages for this game and although I’ve not played it much yet, it’s off to a decent start.
Steins;Gate and Steins;Gate 0 were on a decent offer this month so I decided to go ahead and purchase the bundle. This series is one I’ve had my eye on for some time now and it’ll make a great addition to my 2020 gaming plan.
Edna & Harvey is another series I picked up due to my love of Daedalic’s Deponia. It cost approximately £3 for both games during the Steam Hallowe’en Sale so I’m curious to see if these even hold a candle to Deponia.
River City Girls
Degrees of Separation
Amnesia: The Dark Descent
The Shrouded Isle
I know I don’t usually like playing too many games at once, but here we are again with a list almost a long as my arm. Most of these games were chosen specifically for Hallowe’en which myself and WesleyWhale reviewed in our HORRORWE’EN post and surprisingly, 9/12 were played with WesleyWhale.
I’ll definitely be cutting down on the amount of different games I’ll be playing next month as I already know November will consist of Planet Zoo, BBTAG and Smite for the RWBY Battle Pass rewards. River City Girls, Dragon Quest and F.E.A.R were the gaming highlights of the month for sure.
Psychedelica of the Ashen Hawk (Steam / 100%)
Degrees of Separation (Switch)
Dragon Quest (Switch)
River City Girls (Switch / 100%)
I actually used my Switch last month and completed my first 3 Switch games! River City Girls and Dragon Quest have become some of my new favourites. I was quite disappointed overall with Psychedelica of the Ashen Hawk, but I’m glad I’ve finished it. It’s extremely annoying that the Steam achievement for collecting all the other achievements is bugged though.
Game of the Month:
I am over the moon that the original Dragon Quest trilogy made it to the Switch. At first, I honestly didn’t know if I would enjoy it since I’m generally not a fan of older games, but I found myself hooked. I enjoyed the simplistic gameplay as the challenge lay within the adventuring – there were many times I wandered in the wrong direction and almost paid the price for my mistake… literally. It was also fun to play just for the odd 20 minutes here and there with the addition of a quicksave function, but I could also find myself playing for hours.
Dragon Quest has been a series I’ve wanted to get into for a while now, but I’m the type of person to want to start right at the very beginning so this release was warmly welcomed to my Switch library. I also bought the other two Dragon Quest games at the same time, but I haven’t got round to starting them just yet. I’m super excited to start them, but I know I need to finish off some other games before I get too invested in another. Seriously though, this was awesome and I suggest you should give it a go!
Looking Forward To:
BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle 2.0
Smite: RWBY Battle Pass
I already know I’ll be buying both Planet Zoo and the BBTAG 2.0 Content on release. I’ve been waiting for both of these to release and as far as I’m aware, there isn’t actually anything else releasing this year that I’m excited for. I’m also hyped for the RWBY x Smite crossover and I can’t wait to get my hands on the team RWBY skins. I’ll definitely be playing a hell of a lot of Smite (even more than usual) as I would love to unlock the Prestige Classic RWBY Thanatos skin!
I decided to theme my [11:11] post this month around Hallowe’en (because obviously I would) and opted to make a list of cosplay ideas that would be fitting for the season. This is a little different from the usual type of content I feature in my [11:11] posts, but actually really enjoyed writing this one.
Song of the Month:
Indigo Blue – Sakata
絶え間なく藍色 (獅子志司) – あほの坂田。
Aside from the Hallowe’en Playlist I created, my song of the month has to be Indigo Blue covered by Sakata. The composition and instrumentation is the best aspect of the song, but Sakata’s vocal compliments it incredibly, therefore I much prefer his version to the original Miku vocaloid version.
I hope you all had a great Hallowe’en and an overall decent October. Let me know what games you’ve been playing!
