The Hallowe’en Utattemita Playlist

As Hallowe’en is my favourite time of the year, I thought I’d share my Hallowe’en music playlist. Other than gaming, music is another huge part of my life and I suppose you could say I have an obscure taste. I understand this post probably won’t be of interest to my usual audience, but the utattemita community means a lot to me and I’d love to show my appreciation for these artists once in a while.

Not all of these songs are from the utattemita* category and there are some other Japanese artists included in this list (if they are covers, I’ve credited the original artist in brackets). Saying that, the majority of these songs are actually original titles and not utaite covers. With it being Hallowe’en, I also decided to feature 13 songs in this list rather than the usual list of 11… partly because of the spooky association, but mainly due to there being so many great songs!

*Utattemita [歌ってみた] meaning “Tried to Sing” or “Sang It (NicoNico translation)”. A genre of music in Japanese culture deriving from vocalists posting covers of Vocaloid songs on Japanese video site, NicoNico Douga (Niconico). The majority of these artists also write their own songs which can vary in style/genre and they also often collaborate with other utattemita artists. Utaite [歌い手] meaning “Singer”.

13. Crazy Party Night – Kyary Pamyu Pamyu

The music video makes this song even better.

12. You Are The Miserable – t+pazolite

Awesome instrumental track with perfect themes for Hallowe’en.

11. Happy Halloween – Sou (Junky)

My favourite version of this song. It’s been covered an awful lot.

10. Princess Wolf Has A Dream – Nanahira

Cute and creepy? Here you go!

9. Mrs. Pumpkin’s Comical Dream – luz x nqrse x Soraru x Mafumafu (Hachi)

Fun upbeat collaboration featuring some of my favourite utaites.

8. This Night – Amatsuki x nqrse

Very atmospheric, beat heavy song consisting mainly of rap verses.

7. Hungry Ghost – UraShimaSakataSen (DECO*27)

Written by DECO*27 for UraShimaSakataSen (and you can really tell).

6. Dear Doppelganger – KEMU VOXX

This song is sick. The genre fusion is fantastic and makes it an exciting listen.

5. GHOST – Mafumafu x nqrse

This one is actually entirely in English 😛

4. Grim Maker – UraShimaSakataSen

Jazzy style Hallowe’en song with a really refreshing genre fusion.

3. Splatter Party – Camellia feat. Hatsune Miku

An old Camellia song, but his style still shines. I can feel the horror.

2. HORRORISM – UraShimaSakataSen

If this isn’t a song fit for Hallowe’en, then I don’t know was is.

1. Happy Hollow and God Club – Soraru x Mafumafu (Nanou feat. Hatsune Miku)

I adore the composition and instrumentation. Amazing cover by my two favourite utaites.

So these songs are the main ones I’ll be listening to for the next few days with Hallowe’en creeping closer.  I’m pretty sure we’ll see some more songs released on the 31st, I know After the Rain (Soraru x Mafumafu) have one planned, and I honestly cannot wait to hear it!
