Monthly Summary: August 2019

The month of August has been a little abnormal this time around. Although I feel like I’ve completed a fair few games, they have all been of the same genre – a genre I’m very fond of. With so many games on the horizon, I’m now left with a gaming schedule that pretty much consists entirely of new releases up until the end of the year which is totally new for me. Even though there’s not a great deal of stuff to share this month, here’s what I’ve been up to:

Astral Chain

Psychedelica of the Ashen Hawk

I looks like I’ll only be purchasing new releases for the rest of the year. Yesterday was an expensive day with the release of both Astral Chain and Psychedelica of the Ashen Hawk, but I had to get them both. My boyfriend also sent me a spontaneous Steam gift of GRIS for some random reason – no complaints here, I love it when he surprises me like this. I’ve heard a lot of good things about this game so I’m looking forward to trying it.

Games Played:

Psychedelica of the Black Butterfly

Fashioning Little Miss Lonesome

This month has been a complete otome visual novel binge. I took a break from the genre after playing Steam Prison back in March, but now I’m back into the swing of things and I honestly can’t get enough of them. This month I have come to realise the extent of how much I love this genre and I feel like I’ve found my niche.

I also continued Deponia with my boyfriend, but I think the plan is to fully revisit this series when we have some time off together in a few weeks time.

The binge progressed by 100% completing all three of these otome VNs… I like to experience all the available routes in these stories so it’s rare I can cast them aside after finishing one playthrough – in fact, I don’t think this has happened yet. I like to think I’m also getting better at finishing games before a start others, which I think this monthly summary proves.

Game of the Month:

Idea Factory have won me over yet again. I was really impressed with Psychedelica of the Black Butterfly for quite a few reasons, the plot was perfectly written, the characters were interesting and the whole experience was highly enjoyable. I loved the fantasy elements featured in the game, also beautifully depicted in the art style, as it was a refreshing change to other VNs I’ve played previously. It’s also the first VN I’ve never had to refer to a guide for in order get some tricky endings thanks to the very helpful flowchart chapter system and that felt extremely rewarding. I hope to write a full review for this game in the near future and now I’m so stoked to play Psychedelica of the Ashen Hawk!

Looking Forward To:

Upcoming 2019 Games [11:11]

I wrote a post specifically about the upcoming game releases announced for the remainder of the year that I’m looking forward to. Head on over there by following the link above to see what games I’m excited for! (There’s a spoiler in the image…)

100% Game Completions

Upcoming 2019 Games

100% Game Completions

My blogging series saw two entries this month with the return of the [11:11] subseries! The first marked the occasion of 100% completion for 11 different games, a topic I’ve really pushed myself towards this year. The second then saw a list of 11 upcoming games I’m excited for before 2020. I’ve never been excited about so many upcoming releases before, so I though the subseries would be a great opportunity to address the subject.

Song of the Month:

Nasty * Nasty * Spell – Camellia

This month sees a slightly different musical entry thanks to my boyfriend’s influence. We’ve both been fans of Camellia for the past few years due to his super awesome compositions and unique sound. Camellia has guided me into the whole utaite scene, so it’s wonderful to see he’s got a new album out with an outstanding track like this.

That’s all from me this month. I’m hoping to get time to play more games next month since I’ll finally get some time off work. It’s also my birthday in a few weeks, so I’m hoping I’ll get some of the games on my upcoming wishlist.

What have you been up to this month?
