Monthly Summary: May 2019

With another month almost over, it’s time once again to review my monthly gaming progress for May. I’m tweaking the format for my Monthly Summary posts slightly from now on as I felt my categories were becoming a little repetitive. It hasn’t changed a great deal from before, but I’m hoping this will work out better in the long run.

Purchases

Psychedelica of the Black Butterfly

Tokyo Xanadu ex+

Death end re;Quest

Primordia

I purchased both Psychedelica and Tokyo Xanandu at the beginning of the month as part of Steam sales. I’ve had my eye on Tokyo Xanadu for a while so I couldn’t refuse the 80% off discount (even if it is bound to sit in my backlog for quite a while)!

My main purchase this month was Death end re;Quest since it was released on Steam a few weeks ago. This is the next major game I plan to play in a few weeks time and I’m really looking forward to seeing what it’s all about.

I had my first request this month! My boyfriend sent me a copy of Primordia with the views to me reviewing it sometime in the near future. There are a few other games I have on my list to play first, but I’m interested to see what it will be like.

Games Played

The Caligula Effect: Overdose

Dragon’s Crown

Yakuza 0

Guild Wars 2: LWS4 Ep 6 finale

BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle

Rather than list my favourite 3 games here, I’ll now be listing everything I’ve played during the month. The majority of my time has been spent either on The Caligula Effect: Overdose during the week and Dragon’s Crown Pro at the weekends.

I did start the GW2 finale to Living World, but I haven’t got round to finishing the story quite yet due to my eagerness to finish Caligula Effect. I plan to finish this next week and start working on the Skyscale mount collection!

My boyfriend also started Yakuza 0. He only got a few hours in as it was only really started to take a break from Dragon’s Crown. I will be spectating him play this through so we can experience it together and so far it’s pretty good (even as a spectator) but I was a little surprised at how brutal the violence can be.

BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle has been updated this month, adding 4 new characters to the roster. I only got chance to have a brief look at the new characters but I’m really excited to play more very soon.

Completions

The Caligula Effect: Overdose – Main Story

Dragon’s Crown – Infernal

I made it my mission this month to finish The Caligula Effect: Overdose. I managed to finish two play throughs, getting both the Go-Home Club and the Ostinato Musicians’ endings. Although I didn’t set out for 100% completion, I was only a handful of achievements away after finishing both stories so I thought ‘what the hell’ and decided to go ahead with it. I’m now only two achievements away from completion.

I’ve been playing Dragon’s Crown at the weekends with my boyfriend for months now and we’ve finally completed Infernal mode! We’re going for the Platinum Trophy with 80% progress so far, but we’ll need to play the first stage of the game through again with different characters to get those. I imagine we’ll still be playing this for a few more weeks at least.

Game of the Month

The Caligula Effect: Overdose

Although I started this game back in March, I only invested a few hours up until the end of April. Over the course of the past month, I’ve invested almost 60 more hours into two story runs and (almost) 100% completion – which will be finished within the next few days.

At first I didn’t warm to the game, but I decided to give it a chance since I paid £50 for it on release after getting myself hyped up over it, and I’m glad I stuck with it. After finishing the Go-Home Club’s ending, I was going to stop and move on since the first run was quite boring with tedious fights and minimal filler content between levels. I didn’t realise the Ostinato Musicians’ story could be done alongside the Go-Home Club’s so I didn’t experience tis first time around.

My second playthrough was far more enjoyable but u think this was partly due to the New Game + feature which allowed you to keep all your progress so far other than the GHC’s character friendship levels. This meant I could run through all the levels without disturbing any enemies as they were much lower levels, bringing the tedious fights to an end and making collection progress much quicker.

This isn’t a game I would recommend to everyone, but it provides a decent introduction to JRPGs if you’re new to the genre. If you want to give it a go, then definitely do both routes in the same playthrough as you get a more in depth story and way more content to play through.

Looking forward to

Higurashi Chapter 7

World End Syndrome

London Detective Mysteria

Enchanted in the Moonlight

Code Vein

Higurashi Chapter 7

I don’t think I’ve waited on a game longer than Higurashi. Chapter 6 was released in June last year, and a whole year later we’re just hearing about Chapter 7. The last I heard from MangaGamer (last week), Higurashi Chapter 7 is out of beta and awiting final touches such as Steam Achievements and Trading Cards. This really does sound like the final stage, so with any luck Chapter 7 should be released next month! I’m so excited!

Worldend Syndrome was released this month, but Europe are still awaiting the release on June 13th. This was one of the games I was looking forward to being released in the West this year, so I’m eager to get my hands on it when it arrives.

Bandai Namco released some Network Testing codes for Code Vein via Twitter this week. I really wanted to enter the draw for the codes, but unfortunately I just would have the time to play it. This is great news though as I’ve been excited about Code Vein for an awful long time and it seems it’s becoming a step closer to release.

[11:11]

11 JRPGs I Wish I Had Time To Play

#AniMay (The Subseries)

2. JRPGs I Wish I Had Time To Play

May saw the second addition to my new monthly series with 11 JRPGs I Wish I Had Time To Play. I also created a new subseries for [11:11] with an entry for #AniMay. I hope to continue this subseries every few months when I want to talk about something other than gaming to shake things up a little. It’s always nice to freshen things up. Song of the Month

The Equation for the Beginning of Love – After the Rain

I know I’ve picked both Soraru and Mafumafu already this year as part of this feature, but I haven’t chosen them as After the Rain yet! They haven’t released a song under their duo name since they released Black Christmas back in December, so I was over the moon to hear they were releasing a new AtR song! I’ve waited 6 months for this!

What have you been up to this month? Let me know in the comments!
