Wow… What a month. This September has been the busiest month I’ve had all year, if ever. I haven’t really had a lot of time to play games, but I’ve acquired plenty of new ones due to it being my birthday as well as a few other things I’m extremely excited for (the header might give you some clues)!
To start things off, here’s what I’ve been up to this month outside of my PC gaming adventures. As you may have noticed, over the course of September I have been taking part in the 30 Day Anime Challenge created by A Geeky Gal. Writing about a new topic has been refreshing and I’ve enjoyed the journey despite the amount of work I put into these posts. I’ve also been working on my piece for Normal Happenings‘ collaboration project, “Games That Defines Us”. This too has been a massive thing for me and I cannot wait to read everyone else’s posts when November comes around. The third thing has been taking on some Kanji study lessons with a small group on Twitter, lead by LT Ironfox. I’ve been trying to learn Japanese myself for a year but after hitting a personal wall, I’m feel this is what I need to get back into the swing of things.
Not only that, it’s been my birthday so I took a few days off work to spend some quality time with my boyfriend. I work pretty random shifts and living an hour’s journey away from him makes it difficult for us to see each other regularly. Speaking of work, I also got a new job! I start in a few weeks time, but I’m also reducing my hours at the place I currently work and taking both jobs on at once. I’m so excited! Told you there was a tonne of stuff going on this month!
Now back to normality…
PS4 (Crash, God of War, ESO)
Nintendo Switch (Preordered)
Learn Japanese To Survive: Kanji Combat
The major purchase this month was my PS4. My parents gave me some money towards it and I ended up paying for the rest myself, so I’d say that counts as a purchase! I ended up ordering Persona 5 and Bloodborne separately as these were the two games I wanted the most, along with Spyro Reignited. It’s a shame it got delayed, but I’ll pick it up when it’s released in November.
I also preordered the new Limited Edition Pikachu and Eevee Nintendo Switch! It was very much an impulse buy as I ended up placing the order the day it was announced… but I’ve been thinking about getting one for a while so why not! Roll on November!
30 Day Anime Challenge
Learn Japanese to Survive: Katakana War
Smite – 2,000 hours
I completed my 30 Day Anime Challenge within 30 days this time! I’m so proud I stuck to the schedule I set myself, but I’ll talk more about this later.
I managed to 100% complete Katakana War at the beginning of the month and therefore bought the next game in the series, Kanji Combat, so I can carry on my Japanese learning journey!
Earlier this week I hit 2,000 hours on Smite. I know it’s not a completion, but it’s a hell of a milestone. I have been playing the game for 3 years now and I play it almost on a daily basis. I’m not sure whether to feel proud or ashamed of myself to be quite honest and thinking how much time I’ve spent on this game makes me feel like I’ve wasted a lot of my gaming hours. I’d love to play a wider variety of games on a more regular basis, but unfortunately Smite just seems to have a knack for consuming my time.
Hakuoki: Edo Blossoms
30 Day Anime Challenge
I can’t believe I still haven’t finished Hakuoki: Edo Blossoms! I’ve been playing for 50 hours now and still have 3 character routes left to complete. I’ll definitely finish this in the next few weeks and get onto writing a review.
I started to play Bloodborne on my new PS4. Although I’ve mainly watched my boyfriend play rather than actually play myself, I think I could get into it. I was never fond of Dark Souls but the setting for Bloodborne is far more to my taste. Unfortunately, my controller stopped working after 6 days… Good job Sony. Thanks to that, I’ve not had chance to try any other games yet.
Games I’m Looking Forward To:
Nintendo Switch, Pokemon Let’s Go!
Kill la Kill
Soul Calibur VI
Red Dead Redemption II
Kingdom Hearts III
There seems to be so many new games that I’m hyped for this month, maybe due to the addition of two new consoles in my life! The major thing I’m looking forward to though is the Limited Edition Pikachu and Eevee Nintendo Switch that I preordered! It’s released in Novemeber with the new Pokemon Let’s Go! game, and I’m super excited to try it out!
Ace Attorney has been announced for PC, PS4, XB1 and Switch for release in early 2019! I’ve heard so much about it and I’ve always wanted to give it a go for myself – now I can! I’ll probably be picking this up on PC since it will always be my main platform, but maybe I could have a soft spot for the Switch by then…
Spyro Reignited, Red Dead Redemption II and Soul Calibur VI are all still games that I’ve been watching closely for months. I’ll definitely be purchasing Spyro as soon as it is released, but I think I’ll wait on Red Dead to see if it will get a PC release in the near future.
30 Day Challenge
Since I haven’t been playing games much at all this month I don’t really have any recommendations. I did complete my 30 Day Anime Challenge though which I thoroughly enjoyed writing, and I actually followed my schedule this time and got it completed over the duration of September.
I recommend every blogger takes part in a 30 Day Challenge at some point along the way as I think it’s a really creative way to express yourself to your readers as well as helping with your time management. It may push you to your limits as it can be a much heftier workload than you may think, but if you tailor it to your own reasonable goals then I guarantee you’ll enjoy the process.
I did a 30 Day Video Game Challenge back in March and although I loved sharing my video game experiences, I found it difficult to manage the workload. For this reason, it took me almost 2 months to complete. Although I was glad I’d persevered and finished it, I felt like I’d let myself and my readers down for being so inconsistent. This time, I decided to group 5 questions together and post them every 5 days so I didn’t have the stress of getting 30 separate posts ready to publish every single day. This really took the pressure off as well as lightening the workload slightly, making things easier to manage.
Writing about a topic aside from gaming has also helped my motivation, particularly as I’ve not had time to properly game this month. It has provided a refreshing content addition to my blog about another subject I’m passionate about. I’ll leave the links to both the 30 Day Challenges created by Megan, A Geeky Gal that I’ve participated in below. Don’t be afraid to try them out yourself!
Basically, last month’s goals have rolled over to this month since I appear to achieved none of the ones I stated in my last post… oops. During October, I will finish Hakuoki: Edo Blossoms and write my review, start another visual novel as I plan to play as many as I can before the end of the year and also complete a Sunshine Blogger Award post with WesleyWhale that I was nominated for this month by Alex Sigsworth!
What have you been up to this month? Let me know in the comments!
